Flannel Friday: Camping!

I'm going camping this weekend! Woo! Going to escape some of this AZ heat and retreat to the mountains. So that got me thinking about doing a camping storytime, and luckily there's lots of ideas out there (like Storytime Katie, or Sunflower Storytime, or Storytimes with Moxie). But I still wanted to come up with an original idea for a flannel. So here it is:

A Camping We Will Go!

Tune: The Farmer in The Dell

(loosely inspired by song found on Preschool Education)

*Tree* 

(marching action)

A camping we will go.

A camping we will go.

Hi ho we're off to the woods.

A camping we will go.

*Tent* 

(hands up making a tent shape)

Sue will bring the tent. 

Oh Sue will bring the tent.

Hi ho we're off to the woods.

A camping we will go.

*Backpack* 

(put on back pack, hiking motions)

Lee will bring the gear 

Oh Lee will bring the gear

Hi ho we’re off to the woods

A camping we will go.

*Campfire* 

(hammer pound hands, building motions)

Tom will build the fire. 

Oh Tom will build the fire.

Hi ho we're off to the woods.

A camping we will go.

*Bear* 

(bear claws and growls)

The bear will bring a snack

The bear will bring a snack

Hi ho we’re off to the woods

—wait…a BEAR?!?! (scared face)

(running in place)

I think it’s time to go!

Hi ho we’re going home!

No camping—we won’t go!

Ha! I make myself laugh... So this is an extra fun one to do with the kids because after you put each part of the flannel up, there's a lot of actions you can do with the song to get them involved and having fun (especially practicing different scared faces). Oh, and feel free to change the names of the campers—maybe you have some kids who will volunteer?

I used clipart for this flannel, which you can download here: tree, tent, backpack, campfire, and bear (each one is a vector image). Or you can make them out of felt pretty easily. Anyway, I do hope you find time to use it this summer and have some fun! Hopefully I won't run into any bears this weekend...
