Hello, and welcome back to my (now) continuing series of new and ideal storytime books, with this the second post (see my first one here). Sure, we all have our favorite, go-to storytime books. But how about all the new and fabulous books being published? Well, here are some of my favorites that just seem perfect for storytime and read alouds.

The only thing Bobby wants for his birthday is a pet shark. So you can imagine his disappointment when his parents get him...a puppy. The humor, the adorable illustrations, and the ending (of course) just makes this book so much fun. Plus, lots of characters means lots of fun character voices. A fantastic read aloud! I would probably target it at a slightly older audience, like preschoolers, due to the length of the book and some of the subtler jokes, but still. So great.

Do you know what gets a group of little kids giggling faster than anything? Saying "Naked!" over and over. This little boy is out of the bath and not into his clothes. No, everything is much better when you're naked! And parents enjoy it, too, because who among them can't relate to having a naked toddler running loose around the house? The illustrations are super cute and skillfully censored. I'm telling you, it's genius.

Lights, camera, ACTION! This here is a documentary on a moose--a nice, normal, forest-residing moose. Just ignore the lacrosse-playing moose grandma. And the astronaut costume. So, you may now notice that a lot of my favorite storytime books involve a lot of humor. This is one such read that's a lot of fun with all of the different characters and movie-filming terminology and vivid illustrations. Probably a bit better for the slightly older crowd, again, but still awesome.

Imagine this: family storytime night, complete with kids in PJs and their favorite blankets and cuddlies. This, this is the book to read. It's the cuddliest book there ever was. This book is about Snuggleford Cuddlebun, the champion sleeper. In fact, she's such a good sleeper that she decides to go to Snoozefest, an arena festival that celebrates sleep. Yeah, it's pretty dang cute. The illustrations are so soft, and the rhyming text makes it almost like a lullaby. Super fun read.
