Fire Safety Storytime

Bonus storytime idea today!

Since it's Fire Prevention Month, we invited the local firefighters out to the library to talk to kids about fire safety.

The firefighters explained different safety tips, warnings, and recommendations. Then they dressed one of their guys fully into gear so that the kids (especially the younger ones!) could see and hear what a firefighter looks/sounds like. Which is pretty important, because you want your kids to go towards the darth-vadar-breathing giant. So, yeah. At the end, they took the families out to the fire truck for a little tour and a more explanations. Plastic firefighter hats and stickers were passed out to the enjoyment of all.

Also, did you know that you can visit the fire station for an even more comprehensive lesson in fire safety? Of course, check with your station, but most love visits from a group of kids or families. Especially if you bring a thank you treat.

In the end, it's not technically a storytime. But I'm counting it as one...

If they had not been able to show up--because they are on duty, and could've been called to an emergency--then we had back-up plans.
